A city teen was wounded by a bullet while riding on a motorcycle through North 3rd Street during Saturday evening, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim, 16-year-old, was the passenger on a motorcycle being operated by his friend on North 3rd Street at around 6:55 p.m. on Saturday, when a bullet struck him in the back.

“As the driver approached the intersection of Jefferson Street, driver and passenger heard a “popping sound”, at which time the motorcycle turned onto Jefferson Street.,” said Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit. “Immediately after turning onto Jefferson Street, the 16 year old passenger advised the driver that he believed he was shot, at which time the driver pulled over and confirmed that the victim was struck in the back.”

The bike’s driver pulled onto Jefferson Street, spotted a police vehicle, and sought help. “The driver then flagged down the marked police unit,” said Murray.

Police rushed the victim to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. The teen is in critical but stable condition, according to police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Edgar Taylor or Detective Rolando Polio of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
