A city man suffered shotgun wounds to the chest and face while walking on 21st Avenue during the early morning hours of Monday, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim, 32-year-old, city resident, was walking on 21st Avenue near East 24th Street at around 4:30 a.m. on Monday when two hooded suspects approached and demanded his personal belongings.

“One of the suspects was armed with a shotgun, and at that time, a verbal demand was made for the victim’s personal property,” said Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit. “While turning his property over to the suspects the armed suspect fired the weapon, striking the victim in the chest and face area.”

After shooting the victim, the two suspects fled in an unknown direction, according to police. Officers responded to the area after receiving alerts of gunfire to find the victim with “chest and face injuries consistent with shot gun pellets.”

Police rushed the victim to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment where he is in stable condition, said Murray.

Earlier in the night a 22-year-old city man was wounded in the leg near Market and Pennington Streets.

Detectives are canvasing the area and searching for area video footages, said police. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Carlos Charon or Prosecutor’s Detective Ricardo Ferreira of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
