Maritza Davila, assistant admissions director at the Passaic County Community College; Alex Mendez, school board member and business owner, and Kenneth Morris, incumbent, councilman at-large and government liaison at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, have won the three seats that were open for grabs, according to unofficial election results released by the Passaic County Clerk’s Office.

The eight-person council at-large race saw the defeat of councilman Kenneth McDaniel, vice principal of Passaic County Technical Institute, who ran on his record. McDaniel received the endorsements of key city leaders like Benjie Wimberly, assemblyman representing New Jersey’s 35th legislative district.

Davila received 5,552 votes; Morris received 6,458; and Mendez, a hardcore campaigner, received the highest number of votes: 7,472. The others: Eddie Gonzalez, outreach director for New Jersey Community Development Corporation, received 4,661; Bernard Jones, executive director of the Paterson Community Health Center, received 2,160; Haytham Younes, an accountant, received 1,252; Michael Jackson, owner of Jacksonville Restaurant, received 5,016; and  McDaniel received 5,408 votes.

McDaniel, who lost by 144 votes to Davila, was elected two years ago to finish the incomplete term left by Wimberly.
