A city man was wounded in a shooting incident on Godwin Avenue during the evening hours of Friday, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim, 46-year-old, was standing outside a home on Godwin Avenue between Carroll and Auburn Streets at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Friday when a lone gunman approached.

The suspect walked up to the victim and sparked up a conversation, said police. “After a short conversation, the male produced a handgun and fired at the victim, striking him once in the upper body,” said Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit.

Police received an alert of gunfire in the area, but when officers responded to the scene they did not find any victims. Minutes later, a victim with gunshot wound to the upper body arrived at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in a private vehicle.

The victim is in stable condition, according to police.

Murray said at this time police are investigation the shooting incident and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Rolando Polio or Detective Edgar Taylor of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
