A Belleville man and two city women were wounded by gunfire during the late evening hours of Tuesday near East 19th Street, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The first victim, 29, the second victim, 27, and the third victim, 24, were standing near the intersection of 10th Avenue and East 19th Street at around 11:05 p.m. on Tuesday when a gunman began firing.

“At this time it appears that all of the victims were standing in a group on 10 Avenue near East 19 Street when shots were fired by an unknown person, and the victims were struck at that time,” said Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit.

Police responded to the shooting after receiving alerts of gunfire in the area only to find the Belleville man suffering from gunshot wound the arm and leg, Murray said. As officers were investigating the incident, St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center alerted police that two females had arrived with gunshot wounds.

The 27-year-old woman suffered graze wounds to the leg. The 24-year-old woman sustained graze wound to the chest and leg, according to police.

“Both female victim were treated and released,” Murray said. The 29-year-old is in stable condition, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Edgar Taylor or Detective Rolando Polio of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
