A city man was wounded during the early morning hours of Wednesday on East 18th Street following an altercation with another male, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim, 23-year-old, was involved in a verbal dispute in East 16th and Park avenues with a male suspect at around 5:13 a.m. on Wednesday when the second man pulled out a weapon and wounded the victim once on the arm, police said.

“At this time it appears that the victim was involved in a verbal altercation with a second male, and that during that altercation, the male produced a handgun and fired at the victim, striking him in the arm,” said Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit.

Police responded to the scene after receiving alerts of gunfire in the area. “On arrival, officers located the victim sitting in front of a nearby residence with an apparent gunshot wound to the arm,” Murray said.

The victim was rushed to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. Police said the victim is suspected to be released from hospital soon.

Police said this investigation is continuing at this time, and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Edgar Taylor or Detective Rolando Polio of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
