A teenager was brought into police custody and charged with attempted murder on late Monday afternoon for shooting a 24-year-old during the weekend, according to the Paterson Police Department.
The suspect, 17-year-old, was identified as the shooter in the incident that unfolded during the early morning hours of Saturday. Police caught the suspect following an investigation into the incident.
“The juvenile was taken into custody late Monday afternoon without incident after being observed on Rosa Parks Boulevard by Detectives Francisco Brito and Aramis Alba,” said Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit. “He is currently detained at the Essex County Detention Center awaiting court proceedings.”
The victim, a city resident, of Saturday’s shooting that took place at around 2:35 a.m. at the intersection of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Putnam Street is in stable condition, police said.
Although police said this and another shooting of a 12-year-old were connected, Murray said the incident at this time does not seem connected. “At this time, this incident is not connected to the Genesis Rincon incident later that day,” said Murray.
