A city resident has completed his basic military training at the United States Navy command in Great Lakes, Illinois.

Navy Seaman Manuel Rosario, a graduate of Passaic County Technical Institute, recently completed the physically demanding eight-week training program at the Navy’s Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illinois.

Rosario’s training included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs like first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, shipboard, and aircraft safety, according to the United States military.

Rosario, son of city residents Agustin Rosario and Octavia Duran, also engaged in a capstone exercise in boot camp called “Battle Station.” The exercise gives recruits confidence and skills to succeed in the fleet.

The exercise is designed “to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of Honor, Courage and Commitment,” the navy said.

The exercise teaches recruit what it truly means to be a sailor.
