A city man was wounded on Butler Street during the early morning hours of Friday, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim, 27-year-old, was wounded in the upper arm at around 6:10 a.m. on Butler Street on Friday, police said. The victim was walking on River and May streets when a vehicle passing by released a flurry of bullets wounding him.

“At this time, it appears that the victim was walking in the area of River/May Streets when a vehicle described only as dark in color pulled up, at which time an occupant of the vehicle fired several rounds, striking the victim once,” said Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit.

The victim sought refuge at a home just steps away on Butler Street. Police was called to the scene. The victim was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Murray said the victim was treated and released from hospital.

Detectives are currently conducting interviews and canvassing the area for information regarding the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detectives Aramis Alba or Francisco Brito of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342.
