One dead, two wounded in 12th Avenue shooting

A shooting during the early morning hours of Sunday on 12th Avenue left a city man dead and two others wounded.

Gunfire rang out at the intersection of 12th Avenue between East 22nd and East 23rd streets at around 4 a.m. on Sunday leaving a 19-year-old male dead and two other men, both 22, wounded.

The 19-year-old, Kashan Sumpter was found fatally wounded on the sidewalk when police responded to the scene. The victim was rushed to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

City police received alerts of gunfire near 290 12th Avenue at around 4 a.m. Officers responded to the scene. Police called in ambulance to rush Sumpter to the hospital while the other two victims made it to the emergency room through private vehicle.

Minutes following the shooting at around 4:20 a.m. police received word from the hospital that a gunshot victim was dropped off by a private vehicle. At around 4:29 a.m. another victim walked into the hospital. The two 22-year-olds made it to the hospital by private vehicle.

One of the victim was treated and released and an another is undergoing treatment.
