The Paterson Arts and Science Charter School served Thanksgiving meals to families of students during Wednesday evening while discreetly providing turkeys to families in need.

Through holiday dinners like this one where students and their families break bread with the school staff the charter is bringing together the proverbial village.

After serving a turkey meal to students and their families, the charter identified students whose families qualify for free school lunch and provided the families with all provisions for a Thanksgiving dinner.

More than 400 turkeys and donated items were handed out to needy families by the charter network in Paterson, Garfield, and Passaic.

During the current school year the network’s Paterson campus moved from East 33rd Street due to intense pressure from neighbors to 11th Avenue in the former Paterson Catholic High School building.

“Our NJASCS [North Jersey Arts & Science Charter Schools] students, families and staff are an integral part of who we are as a school and we look forward to getting together throughout the year and helping out our families and the communities we serve,” the network’s chief executive officer Nihat Guvercin said.
