A $402,147 federal grant to assist those living with HIV/AIDS virus was awarded to the St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center earlier today, announced Congressman Bill Pascrell.

The funds were awarded through the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program under the United States Department of Health and Human Services. Funded through the Part C Early Intervention Services (EIS) component, the hospital will be able to use the money to provide primary health care in outpatient settings to those living with the virus.

“We are grateful for Congressman Pascrell’s fight for these federal Ryan White funds and applaud his commitment to healthcare for all New Jerseyans,” President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Joseph’s Healthcare System Kevin Slavin said. “These federal funds will allow St. Joe’s to continue our work in providing those living with HIV and AIDS with the absolute best care possible.”

“These federal funds will help strengthen St. Joseph’s already high quality care for those living with HIV and AIDS,” Pascrell said.

Named after Ryan White who at the age of 13 was diagnosed with AIDS subsequently succumbing to the virus at the age of 18 the program and the legislation that created it seek to help those living with the virus.

“This federal funding will help ensure that thousands of New Jerseyans can receive the services they need to remain healthy,” Pascrell, a former chairman of the Paterson-Passaic-Bergen HIV Planning Council during the early years of the Ryan White Program, said. “I’ll continue to fight to ensure Passaic County and the state at-large continues to receive its fair share of funding from this vital program.”
