A Caldwell teenager who undertook a project collecting donated and purchased musical instruments for the Eva’s Village has been recognized with the highest achievement in girl scouting, Girl Scout Gold Award.

Lauren Picone, a junior at Mount Saint Dominic Academy in Caldwell, executed a project called “Strumming for Change” that sought to bring music to mostly impoverished New Jerseyans at the Eva’s Village, the largest anti-poverty organization in the State.

“This project has been a work in progress for at least 10 months now, and I’m amazed about how many people accepted the idea and helped me take a step closer to achieving my goals,” Picone said.

Picone collected instruments for use at the organization’s campuses in the city.

She was recognized with the Girl Scout Gold Award last week. The award, open only to girls in high school, challenges a young person to change the world or at least the corner in which they live.
