Torres and Evans schedule six town hall meetings, one in each ward

Mayor Jose “Joey” Torres has scheduled six town hall meetings in conjunction with the city’s school district throughout the six wards to receive inputs from residents on issues impacting the city.
The meetings, set to take place in neighborhood schools in each of the wards, will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Torres will open each of the meeting at 5 p.m. to discuss public safety, community development, recreation, and school construction.
State-appointed district superintendent Donnie Evans and deputy superintendent Eileen Shafer and other educational officials will open the second half of the forum at 6 p.m. to discuss the district’s long-term facilities plan, school sizes, school repairs, upgrades to existing schools, new schools, and elementary school choice initiative.
Residents will be asked to complete surveys which will be analyzed and used to guide the district’s decisions and planning processes for the next five years.
Translators will be available at the meetings.
During his run for a third-term non-consecutive term Torres promised to hold town hall meetings to address residents’ needs.
