A city man leaving a house party was wounded on Garfield Avenue early Saturday morning, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The victim, 20-year-old, was on Garfield Avenue near Arch Street, when gunfire rang out at around 2:40 a.m. Saturday. Police responded to the area finding a large crowd, but were unable to locate a victim, police said.

As the crowd was dispersing police received a call from St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center informing them a gunshot victim had arrived.

“At this time it appears that the victim was in the Garfield Avenue area and had just left an area house party when shots were fired and the victim was struck in the leg,” Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit, said.

Murray said the victim sustained gunshot wound to the lower part of his leg. Police said the victim is in stable condition at the hospital.

At this time the investigation is continuing, Murray said. Anyone with information about this incident should contact Detective Christopher Ravallese or Prosecutor’s Detective Michael Boone at 973-321-1342.
