Housing agencies in Bergen, Passaic, and Union counties have been awarded $4,815,587 in federal funding, announced Congressman Bill Pascrell Thursday morning.

The Paterson Housing Authority received the largest award in the amount of $2.3 million, according to the Pascrell, a member of the powerful House Ways and Means and Budget Committees.

“This federal funding is a promising sign for Bergen, Hudson and Passaic County communities in need of public housing improvements,” Pascrell said. “This investment in public housing is the type of smart economic development we need to create jobs while improving our communities. It is also a critical life line for scores of families that are living in inadequate conditions.”

The funding awarded through the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will be used to help develop modernize public housing throughout the three counties. Part of HUD’s Capital Fund Program the funding can also be used for financing activities like debt service payments and customary financing costs.

“Keeping families in their homes is a key to our economic recovery and essential to preserving the core of our communities and neighborhoods,” Pascrell said.
