Edison heroin user with syringe in car arrested on Straight Street

An Edison man was arrested Friday night by sheriff’s officer as he was driving near Straight and Harrison streets with three bricks of heroin in his vehicle, according to the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office.

Lennard Fransen, 27-year-old, was observed driving a Ford Explorer with bearing in violation of maintenance lamps, at around 11:40 p.m. Friday. Sheriff’s Officers Vargas and Royce were on routine patrol of the area so they pulled over Fransen.

Officer Vargas noticed orange syringe caps and used syringes inside the vehicle as he spoke to Fransen following the stop. The officer asked Fransen if anything was inside the vehicle, Fransen began to tear up and replied in the affirmative.

Fransen voluntarily turned three bricks of heroin or 250 glassine packets that was marked “scorpion” to the officers. Fransen was charged drug possession, possession with the intent to distribute, and possession with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of School Six.

Motor vehicle summonses for maintenance of lamps and carrying drugs in a vehicle was issued. Fransen was released on his own recognizance.
