City officials approved $87,079 to settle three workers’ compensation claims on Tuesday evening.
The largest of the settlement of $73,579 was paid out in a case involving city police officer Edwin Cruz. City records show Cruz “injured his back, right knee, and left hip” when he was chasing a suspect on December 19th, 2002.
Cruz had three other claims that were dismissed, according to city records.
The second largest settlement of $10,000 went to another city police officer Harry Delain. He suffered injuries to his “neck, back, both arms, both hands, both knees, and both shoulders” when he fell over a loose floor title in the city police headquarter radio room on November 29th, 2012, according to city records.
The third settlement of $3,500 went to yet another city police officer John DiTaranto. City record say DiTaranto sustained injuries to his “neck, shoulders, right arm, right hand, and lower back” from a motor vehicle accident he is involved in while pursuing a stolen vehicle on December 20th, 2013.
City council members approved the three settlements during a special meeting on Tuesday evening without any public comments.
