North Jersey Girl Scouts open summer camp registration

The Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey is accepting summer camp registrations for girls in first grade through high school, announced the organization.
Two summer day camps are being organized one in Jockey Hollow Camp in Mendham Township and another in Lake Rickabear in Kinnelon from July 6 to August 21.
“Girl Scout camp is a wonderful opportunity for girls of all ages to explore their interests, enjoy the outdoors and make friends that will last a lifetime,” Betty A. Garger, president of the organization, said. . “There are a variety of program themes from science to drama, and sports to cooking.”
Girls can participate in one or two-week sessions beginning in July. The 212-acre Jockey Hollow Camp in Morris County will run one-week and two-week sessions. The camp includes an L-shaped swimming pool, archery range, horse corral, large playing field, new cabins, adventurous, Low Ropes Challenge Course and zip line, and hiking trails.
Activities at the camp will include daily American Red Cross swimming lessons, outdoor cooking, hiking, environmental programs, optional pony or horseback riding, and optional overnights.
The camp is also offering a program called “Totally Tiki” this year allowing girls to experience the Polynesian world by making Tiki masks, enjoying a Hawaiian cookout, exploring the “Frosty Woods of Arendelle” by journeying to the “North Mountain” to explore frosty games and crafts. 4 to 6 grade girls can experience a “Horsemanship Sampler” to learn grooming, tacking, and trail mannerisms.
There’s also the “Jockey Hollow Stomp” for girls to construct trash can instruments and perform in a junk band ensemble.
A carpentry skills workshop called “Woodworker Extraordinaire” will give girls the opportunity to build a birdhouse, write their name in wood, and build benches for camp fire circles.
At the 332-acre Lake Rickabear 1-12 grade girls can participate in one-week or two-week sessions which has a 40-acre spring fed lake. Included are classic camp activities swimming, boating, arts and craft, and additional theme based events unique to each session. This year the camp will feature “Rockin’ Rickabear” celebrating everything the lake has to offer from beachfront and lake to archery and a zip-line.
A “Mystery Madness” program will allow girls to solve a camp mastery. They’ll also be able to create jewelries and accessories by learning various techniques in another program called “Art-rageous Fashionista.”
In a two-week program called “Day and Away” girls spend one week at Lake Rickabear or Jockey Hollow Camp and the second week is spent at Camp Lou Henry Hoover in Newton. This program is designed for grades 4-6. It allows girls to experience both day and sleep-away camp.
Open house will be held beginning later this month at each of the summer camps for families to visit, meet staff, and tour the camps. Open houses for Jockey Hollow Day Camp will be Sundays, March 29, April 26, and May 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. Lake Rickabear Summer Day Camp open houses will be Sundays, April 26, May 17, and June 7 from 3 to 5 p.m.
