Sheriff raids North 11th Street home arresting suspected drug dealer

Authorities raided a North 11th Street home on Thursday arresting a 35-year-old city man who allegedly used the second floor apartment to distribute narcotics, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.

Suspected drug dealer Daniel Alkema, 35, was arrested following a two-week investigation by detectives from the Passaic County Sheriff’s Bureau of Narcotics. Alkema was using the second floor apartment of 100 North 11th Street to distribute heroin, cocaine, Berdnik said.

Early in the investigation detectives identified Alkema as a dealer unloading drugs on city streets. Authorities said over $100 worth of cocaine, $300 worth of heroin, and $2,000 worth of illegal prescription pills was seized from the second floor apartment.

Berdnik said authorities also seized $1,215 worth of suspected drug proceeds. Alkema is charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance and possession of substance with the intent to distribute for each of the substance found in his apartment.

Authorities the suspect was transported to Paterson police lockup pending bail.

“Drug distribution pockets of this nature tear at the basic fabric of a neighborhood,” Berdnik said.
