City police arrested five alleged drug dealers and buyers on Tuesday after acting on information provided by the community, according to police director Jerry Speziale.

An assortment of drugs that included marijuana, Xanax pills, and heroin was recovered from the suspected buyers and dealers as well as two handguns during an operation at 665 East 24th Street.

Among the alleged buyers police arrested city resident Tahmir L. Rice, 20, and Anthony Rivera, 20, of Wayne, said the director.

Police also arrested John A. DeLeon, 19; Alan A. Valdez, 19; and Ramon A. Gomez, 20.

The three alleged dealers have been charged with selling to both Rice and Rivera. DeLeon, Valdez, and Gomez were also charged with intent to distribute in a school zone near School 13.

“Clearly the teamwork between the community, our community policing efforts and enforcement has removed a dangerous weapon and drugs from our streets,” said Speziale. “Community collaboration is proven to be paramount to our success.”
