13 people from Bergen and Passaic counties were arrested on prostitution charges during a quality of life sweep Friday evening, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.
Sheriff’s detectives conducted the sweep in the area of Market Street and East 26th Street with undercover detectives posing as prostitutes. Alleged customers approached each of the sheriff’s detectives wanting to pay money in exchange of a sexual act, Berdnik said.
Once a crime was committed after each of the arrested persons negotiated a sexual act they were placed under arrest, Berdnik said.
“Because of several prostitution related complaints, from Paterson residents, the Sheriff’s office once again conducted this Quality of Life Detail,” Berdnik said. “Earlier this summer the PCSO conducted a detail that resulted in the arrest of 17 prostitutes.”
Berdnik said the following individuals were arrested on soliciting prostitution charges after they negotiated a sexual act in exchange for money:
• Joseph Aved (74) Paramus
• Michael Cabrera (19) Paterson
• Fuquan Edwin (23) Paterson
• Pascual Garcia (44) Elmwood Park
• Francesco Iudici (50) Elmwood Park
• Robert Ates (66) Paterson
• Mohammad Islam (48) Paterson
• Jose Osoria (46) Paterson
• Josue Guzman (21) Paterson
• Myles Mack (22) Paterson
• Kelly Sati (46) Elmwood Park
• Elias Navarro (41) Paterson
• Jose Rosario (50)
Berdnik said Navarro is also charged with resisting arrest by flight because he attempted to run from detectives.
Rosario was found in possession of prescription legend drugs, Berdnik said. Rosario tried to barter pills for sex.
“I commend the Officers and Detectives involved in making these arrests,” Berdnik said.
