A 48-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were wounded while driving through East 31st Street early Tuesday morning, according to the Paterson Police Department.
Police said the male victim was driving with the female victim in the passenger seat through East 31st Street between Park Avenue and 17th avenues at around 1:40 a.m. on Tuesday.
The driver told police a male stepped in front of his car to get him to stop, but he continued driving at that point a second male began firing at the vehicle from the sidewalk.
Police said the male victim sustained multiple gunshots to the upper body and the female victim was wounded in the lower leg. The driver drove to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center where both victims are in stable condition, police said.
“It is not clear at this time whether the victim was familiar with the male who attempted to stop him,” Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit, said.
Murray said police received report from the hospital that two victims with gunshot wound had arrived.
