City police arrested two people, issued 57 ordinance violations, and handed out six motor vehicle tickets during a two-day citywide Labor Day weekend crime suppression operation, according to police director Jerry Speziale.

Speziale said the first alleged offender engaged in disorderly conduct, resisted arrest on Highland and Sparrow Street. And the second was arrested on drug and gun possession on North 6th and Clinton Streets.

The 57 ordinance violations were issued for loud music, public drinking, blocking entrance of commercial establishments, and for obstructing public passage, said the director.

“Crime suppression continues to reduce the violence in our city,” said Speziale. The city’s Ceasefire and Narcotics Units have been conducting crime suppression operations throughout the summer in stepped up enforcement of city’s quality of life ordinances like loud music and public drinking.

Police officers targeted 20 locations that included high crime areas on Rosa Parks Boulevard and North Main Street, according to the director.

“This weekend’s crime suppression detail has led to the arrest of a dangerous felon and shooting suspect wanted by the department,” observed Speziale.

Within 24 hours, police officers arrested Davelle Silver, 35, for wounding a 45-year-old city man on 12th Avenue, on Saturday night.
