A 38-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man were wounded in separate shooting incidents during the early morning hours of Sunday, according to the Paterson Police Department.

The woman was wounded when gunfire rang out at around 12:01 a.m. on 18th Avenue and East 33rd Street, police said. “On arrival, officers located a 38 year old female at the intersection with multiple gunshot wounds,” Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit, said.

Murray said the woman was wounded in the back.

The man was wounded a minute later at 12:02 a.m. on North Main Street between Haledon Avenue and Stout Street, police said. Murray said that victim was also wounded in the back. “At this time it appears that the victim was standing in the area when he was approached by unknown person (s) and shots were fired, striking the victim,” Murray said.

Both man and woman were shot multiple times, police said.

Both victims were transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. The 38-year-old is in critical condition, police said. The 35-year-old is in critical but stable condition, police said.

Sunday’s shooting continued a violent weekend in Paterson that began with the shooting death of a 63-year-old man on Auburn Street between Fair Street and Broadway. A second victim in his late 30s was left hospitalized from the early Saturday morning shooting.

Murray said police continue to investigate the shootings.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact Ceasefire Detectives Francisco Brito or Christopher Ravallese at (973) 321-1342.
