29-year-old Earl Johnson was arrested on weapons charges on Wednesday night as he sat parked in a car that was idling in front of a closed liquor store on North Main Street, according to police.

Johnson’s gold color Chrysler was approached by police officers Sebastian Gomez and Thomas Giaquinto at about 10:36 p.m. outside of Deli Pichardo Liquors.

A Taurus .38 special loaded with five rounds was recovered, according to police.

Gomez approached on the driver side while Giaquinto approached from the passenger side. Giaquinto illuminated the inside of the vehicle using a flash light and observed the grip of the weapon in the bottom drawer of the car’s center console.

Johnson was arrested and charged. The weapon was seized by police.

Gomez, Giaquinto, Ryan Duffy, and Jovan Candelo were patrolling the area when they came across Johnson’s vehicle. They also spotted another vehicle that was idling at the location.

Johnson was observed behaving speciously, reaching into his car’s console to conceal an item, as the unmarked police car passed, according to police.

“Once again, alert police officers paying attention to their surroundings resulted in another weapon removed from our streets,” said police director Jerry Speziale.
