The New Jersey Youth Corps of Paterson received $17,200 in recreational trail grant to restore the Great Falls, Westside Park, and Overlook Park trails in the city, according to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP).

Funds will be used by the Youth Corps to revamp the trail areas and improve access to the Passaic River for fishing and walking.

Money for the award came from the Federal Highway Administration’s Recreational Trails Program which is administered by the Green Acres program. The trails program’s aim is to improve public access to open space, outdoor recreation, and develop trails.

It also aims to create trail corridors and provide sites and facilities for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and off-highway vehicle activities.

The Youth Corps is year-round volunteer program made up of young people 16-25 years old. Volunteers engage in full-time community service, training, and educational activities.
