A 26-year-old man was arrested on a drug charge on Wednesday after leading authorities on a chase through Route 80, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.

Christian Bluhm, 26, of Lafayette, was apprehended by county detectives with New Jersey State Police assistance, authorities said.

Bluhm allegedly had 20 glassine envelopes of heroin, authorities said. He was charged with heroin possession, eluding, and destruction of evidence.

Authorities said Bluhm drove a black Chevy pick-up truck through Madison and 17th avenues without obeying a red light.

Detectives attempted a motor vehicle stop on Route 80 west. Bluhm began discarding suspected drugs out of his window while looking at the driver side mirror, authorities said. He continued on the highway at 60 miles an hour and changing lanes, the sheriff said.

Bluhm was being followed by detectives to Route 23 interchange where state troopers assisted in stopping the vehicle.

“I want to commend and thank the NJSP for their assistance and professionalism in this matter,” Berdnik said.

Bluhm is being held at Paterson police cell block pending bail.
