Detectives charged 22-year-old city resident Jasmine Manuel with attempted murder, weapons offenses, and endangering an injured victim on Tuesday morning over an incident in which a 22-year-old city man was shot in the leg in a heated indoor argument with a group of people, according to police.

Police said the victim was involved in an argument with a group of males and one female at a multi-family residence on East 23rd Street between 10th and 11th Avenues at about 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

The argument escalated into a physical altercation, said police. The 22-year-old man was physically assaulted. One person produced a handgun and shot the victim, said police, before the group fled the residence.

Ceasefire Unit detective Michael Quinones and Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office detective Michael Boone identified Manuel as one of the participants in the incident, said police.

She is being held in police custody pending a bail hearing.

“Those involved in gun violence will be pursued vigorously and face swift and decisive justice,” said police director Jerry Speziale.

Police continue to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at (973) 321-1342. Send information to detectives without sharing your identity via PatersonPD.com.
