Passaic County’s largest feeding program CUMAC is in the midst of its Feed the Need Challenge to raise $90,000, announced the nonprofit Tuesday.

An anonymous foundation has pledged $5,000 grant to the nonprofit if it successfully raises $90,000 during the months of March and April.

“Financial donations form the foundation from which we build our programs,” Rev. Pat Bruger, CUMAC’s executive director, said. “These funds allow us to continue feeding the hundreds of people who walk through our doors every week and support low income individuals with programs that help to raise them out of poverty.”

CUMAC serves on average 3,000 people each month from regular donations. Bruger hopes the Feed the Need Challenge will raise awareness about the 1 in 7 New Jersey residents struggling with hunger while augmenting the impact of donations made to the nonprofit.

“We need to open our eyes to the impact hunger is having in our community,” says Bruger. “There are thousands of families struggling to keep food on the table in New Jersey. Together, we can ensure that they are getting the help they need.”

Every dollar donated through April 30, 2016 will count towards the challenge.

To have your gift count toward the Feed the Need Challenge simply make a donation to CUMAC between now and April 30. Donations can be made online (www.cumac.org), on the phone (973-742-5518) or by mail (CUMAC, P.O. Box 2721, Paterson, NJ 07509).
