Firefighters pulled a man’s body out of the Passaic River near the Temple Street bridge on Thursday morning, according to authorities.

Police director Jerry Speziale said authorities are working to identify the man. “It’s still an active investigation,” said Speziale.

A passerby spotted the body at about 9:30 a.m. and called police, according to officials.

“I don’t know that it’s a Paterson incident,” said the director. He said it’s the time of the year when the meandering Passaic River brings objects downstream.

Speziale said detectives are investigating the death.
