Police: 17 nabbed in Paterson narcotics sweep

City police officers arrested 17 people on drug charges during their weekly narcotic sweep, said police director Jerry Speziale.

Police seized 180 glassines of heroin, 16 baggies of marijuana, 32 prescription pills, 2 baggies of powdered cocaine, and $769 in suspected drug money between March 29th and April 4th, 2016, said the director.

City residents arrested on drug charges were Julio P. Torres, 53, of Ellison Street; Cecilio Toledano also known as “Cuba,” 58, of East 29th Street; Luis J. Mojica, 30, of Park Avenue; Jorge A. Valiente, 30, of East 31st Street; Derek Pitts, 50, of 17th Avenue; Dahmier Garvey aka “Da,” 18, of Beech Street; Hendry Rivera-Morfa, 21, of Bloomfield Avenue; Henry J. Linares, 19, of Lake Avenue; Luis Hernandez aka “Louie,” 18, of Albion Avenue; and Hilda Nieves-Sanchez,  35, of Albion Avenue, according to police.

Also arrested were Denise Hernandez, 26, of Wayne; Todd W. Malsch, 52, of Wayne; Joseph A. Fumosa, 23, of Wayne; Joseph L. O’Brien, 25, of Emerson; Cassandra L. Shiller, 26, of Franklin Lakes; Alexander F. Fiducia, 34, of Morristown; and a 17-year-old boy, of Wayne, said police.

Torres and Toledano were caught with 69 glasisnes of heroin at 71 Park Avenue on Tuesday, March 29th, 2016.

Toledano allegedly had 69 glassines of which 7 was sold to Torres, according to police.

$126 was taken from Toledano as suspected drug money.

Mojica and Valiente were arrested at 278 Carroll Street on the same day. Mojica had 3 Percocet pills and Valiente had 2 plastic baggies of marijuana, according to police.

The next day, police charged Hernandez and Malsch with having 9 glassines of heroin and 3 baggies of crack-cocaine at 12-2 Grimes Place.

Hernandez also had a $500 outstanding warrant out of Pequannock.

On the same day, police charged Fumosa with having 17 glassines of heroin and resisting arrest at 263 East 24th Street, according to police.

O’Brien and Shiller were arrested at 12 Grimes Place on Friday, March 31st, 2016. O’Brien and Shiller were each charged with having 6 glassines of heroin, according to police.

The next day, police arrested Fiducia and Pitts at 189 Governor Street.

Pitts allegedly had 27 glassines of heroin. He allegedly sold 15 glassines to Fiducia.

$345 in suspected drug money was seized from Pitts, said police.

Garvey was arrested with 36 glassines of heroin at 198 Rosa Parks Boulevard on the same day, said the director.

The 17-year-old boy, Rivera-Morfa, Hernandez, and Linares were arrested on April 4th, 2016 at 149 Albion Avenue, according to police.

The boy was charged with having 9 glassines of heroin. Rivera-Morfa and Linares were charged with having 15 baggies of marijuana and 2 baggies of powdered cocaine.

Hernandez and Nieves-Sanchez, who live at the home, were charged with having 2 baggies of cocaine, 14 baggies of marijuana, 19 Adderall, 10 Xanax pills, according to police.

Police seized $298 in suspected drug money from Hernandez.

“We will continue to combat the scourge of drugs in the city of Paterson and those that the defy us will face swift and decisive action,” said Speziale.
