Two men were wounded in separate armed robberies during the early mornings hours of Tuesday, according to the Paterson Police Department.

Police said the two shootings occurred within just minutes of each other in different parts of the city 1.8 miles apart.

In the first incident, an 18-year-old city man sustain gunshot injuries to the lower leg at around 1:25 a.m. on West Broadway between Belmont Avenue and White Street, police said.

“At this time, it appears that the victim was in the area of West Broadway when he was approached by an armed male who made a verbal demand for the victim’s personal belongings,” Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit, said. “The victim attempted to flee the area and was shot at that time.”

Police responded to a residence on North 3rd Street after receiving information a gunshot victim was at the location. Officers were told the victim was heading to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment by private vehicle. A short time later, the victim arrived at the hospital.

Minutes later another shooting occurred on 15th Avenue and East 22nd Street. In the second incident, a 40-year-old city man was shot in the hip area at around 1:42 a.m., according to police.

Officers could not locate a victim after getting reports of shots fired in the area. Short time later, a gunshot victim arrived at the hospital by private vehicle. Murray said the victim was walking in the area when he was approached by a gunman.

“The suspect made a demand for the victim’s property, and a brief struggle ensued. As the victim attempted to flee, the suspect fired, striking the victim in the hip,” Murray said.

Police said both victims were treated and released.
