A city woman is in critical but stable condition after sustaining a gunshot wound to the abdomen early Sunday morning, according to the Paterson Police Department.

Police said the victim, 24-year-old, was on 12th Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard, where a group gathered at around 3:50 a.m.

At some point gunshots were fired and the victim was struck in the abdomen, Patrick Murray, head of the Ceasefire Unit, said.

“At this time, the circumstances surrounding the incident are under active investigation,” Murray said.

Murray said police officers responded to the intersection and found evidence of an apparent crime scene, but a search did not yield a victim. Shortly thereafter, St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center reported a gunshot victim had arrived by private vehicle.

The victim is in critical but stable condition at the hospital, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Detectives Rolando Polio or Edgar Torres of the Ceasefire Unit at 973-321-1342. Send information anonymously by accessing PatersonPD.com.
