Firefighters put out a single-alarm blaze in the basement of School 19 early Monday morning, said deputy fire chief Pablo Del Valle.
Fire began at 12:23 a.m. and it was contained to a single room in the basement. Firefighters knocked out the fire within half-hour, said the deputy chief.
De Valle said the building located at 31 James Street was vacant at the time the fire broke out. He said no one was injured. It’s not clear what caused the fire.
“We don’t know the cause. It’s still under investigation,” said De Valle. He said the building sustained minimal damage as a result of the fire.
