The city has entered into an agreement to provide police officers to the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission’s office in downtown Paterson in return for $287,996 per year, according to an agreement approved by the city council earlier in the week.

The agreement calls for two police officers to be assigned to the motor vehicle office on Broadway from Monday through Saturday. The officers will be stationed at the site from 8 a.m. until the last employee of the office departs at closing.

The on-duty officers will deter criminal activities at the office, according to the agreement which began on July 1st, 2016.

The shared services agreement must be renewed every year.

Council members approved the agreement during their meeting on Tuesday night.
