A 23-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the upper arm when a flurry of gunshots were fired on East 18th Street between Park and 17th Avenues early Wednesday morning, according to police.

Police said the wounded victim managed to get himself transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center through an acquaintance. He was in the area with several others at about 4:50 a.m. when gunfire was heard.

As he was attempting to flee on foot he was struck, said police.

This continues a series of shootings that have rattled the city since the start of this month. 1 man was killed and 4 were wounded in three weekend shootings in the city.

Police director Jerry Speziale said a new initiative is being introduced to crackdown on gun violence plaguing the city. “The department is about to introduce a new initiative aimed at holding those responsible for firing weapons in our city,” he said.
