Sheriff: Stolen handgun recovered at abandoned Paterson house

Authorities seized a handgun reported stolen out of Haledon in the backyard of an abandoned Rosa Parks Boulevard home on Sunday morning, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.
Detective Americo Escobar and Joseph Royce were flagged down by a concerned citizen about a group of people gathering behind 35 Rosa Parks Boulevard. Escobar and Royce did not find anyone behind the abandoned house, but a search yielded a Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun reported stolen out of Haledon and 1 empty magazine.
“Anytime a stolen weapon is taken off our streets that is a positive development and hopefully stops an individual from being the victim of an act of violence,” Berdnik said.
