The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) starts its Madison Avenue railroad crossing rehabilitation work on Monday morning.

Existing grade crossing at Madison Avenue and Ellison Place will be replaced with a new concrete crossing and asphalt approaches as part of a federally-funded project.

Each year the DOT repairs, upgrades, or removes 30 crossings statewide.

The railroad crossing rehabilitation project will result in road closures and detours from September 19-29. Beginning 8 a.m. two-way traffic between Madison Avenue and Ellison Place will be closed before the grade crossing, according to the DOT.

Detour signs will be posted at the location.
