The Passaic County Sheriff’s Office is deploying extra patrols to increase law enforcement visibility and ensure safe trick-or-treating for children and families, announced Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.

Berdnik said the special deployment will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Halloween day. He did not mention how many additional sheriff’s officers will be patrolling county streets.

“The focus of the deployment is to increase law enforcement visibility and will to a certain extent be areas that have had issues in previous years. The special detail will also assist local police with traffic control and street crossings,” the sheriff said.

Berdnik said the extra officers will also assist local police departments with patrols.

“It is essential that families participating in Halloween are safe as they trick or treat and enjoy what will hopefully be a nice fall day,” Berdnik said. “I want to encourage everyone to be safe and please report any suspicious activity to your local Police Department.”
