Detectives charged two men from Paterson and Elmwood Park for shooting at a family on Market Street last week, said police director Jerry Speziale on Friday afternoon.

Daryl Rodriguez, 19, of Paterson, and Randy Pagan, 19, of Elmwood Park have been charged with attempted murder and two weapons offenses for opening fire on a family leaving the area of Market Street between Carroll and Rose Streets in their vehicle on December 7th, 2016.

Police said the gunfire struck the family’s vehicle and a nearby house multiple times.

“Fortunately nobody was hit by the gunfire,” said Speziale.

Detectives Benny Ramos, Jason English, and Mary Martinez responded to the scene. Their investigation identified Rodriguez and Pagan as actors in the shooting. Police arrested Rodriguez, who lives behind Roberto Clemente Park, at his Chestnut Street home on December 14th, 2016.

Pagan was located at his Lee Street home in Elmwood Park. He was arrested by detective sergeant Ivette Otero and detective Joseph Thomas on December 16th, 2016. The detectives were assisted by officers from the Elmwood Park Police Department.

Police found a cache of drugs inside Pagan’s home. He was in possession of 611 bags of heroin, 56 grams of cocaine, numerous drug paraphernalia, and a handgun, said police.

Rodriguez is being held at the Passaic County Jail on $1 million bail while Pagan is being held at the Bergen County Jail.

Anyone with information about this incident is being asked to contact detectives at (973) 321-1120.
