A 19-year-old city woman pointing a gun at a man on Madison Avenue caught the eye of a policewoman on Wednesday afternoon.
Iyahna Baker, wearing a dark hooded jacket, pointed a silver Raven Arms .25 caliber handgun loaded with two rounds at an unknown white male at about 12:03 p.m. outside of 825 Madison Avenue, said police.
Police officer Maribel Seabrooks observed the situation, notified police headquarters, and took cover behind a parked car. She ordered the suspect to drop her weapon while pointing her service weapon at the woman.
Baker tried to walk away while concealing the handgun with her clothing, said police. Sergeant Orlando Robinson appeared on the scene. Both officers were able to arrest the woman without an incident.
The victim left the scene while police officers were arresting the suspect.
Police director Jerry Speziale said Baker was charged with resisting arrest and two weapons offenses. “The outstanding police work by the officers involved is indicative of their dedication to the city of Paterson, residents and making a safer city,” he said.
