A member of the city’s Board of Adjustment has found himself entangled in a police off-duty work scandal in Jersey City, according to news reports.

Ehab Abdelaziz, the board of adjustment member appointed in 2016, has been reportedly stripped of his weapon and placed on non-enforcement duty, reported the Jersey Journal on Saturday.

Abdelaziz did not return a call for comment for this story.

He is among 12 police officers placed on modified duty due to a federal investigation into possible improper payments collected by officers doing off-duty work, according to the report. The crux of the investigation has to do with some of the officers taking direct payments from doing off-duty work rather than going through the police department’s program which subtracts an administrative fee, according to the report.

None of the officers have been charged with any crime, said the report.

Abdelaziz is the brother of former city council candidate Al Abdelaziz. He played a prominent role in his brother’s campaign last year. He previously worked as a police officer for the Paterson Police Department.

The city laid him off in 2011 with 124 other officers. He was able to secure a post in Jersey City. His salary is $80,000, according to state records.
