Paterson man shot by police officer on Main Street has died

A city man shot by a police officer on Main Street three weeks ago has died, according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Ramon Andrade, 37-year-old, died from his wounds early Thursday morning, authorities said. His next-of-kin have been notified of the death and a post-mortem examination will be conducted by the Regional Medical Examiner in Newark.

Andrade was shot by an on-duty police officer on March 2, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. on Main and Levine streets. He allegedly had a knife and was behaving erratically. Two police officer responded to report of a man with a large knife in the area.

One of the officers shot Andrade. Authorities said a knife was recovered at the scene.

Andrade was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. He was provided continuous medical care since he was brought into the hospital, authorities said.

“The investigation remains active and ongoing and information is subject to change as it develops,” the prosecutor’s office said.
