A city man wanted on gun charges was arrested at a Union Avenue restaurant early Saturday morning, according to Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik.

Julio L. Rivera, 32, was apprehended by officers at around 1:22 a.m. at the El Fogon Restaurant located at 475 Union Avenue, authorities said.

Sgt. Damian Priddy, Sgt. Eric Fajardo, corporal Martin Sanabria, officers Carlos Aymat, Alaa Matari, and Jason Michaels arrested Rivera without an incident. Authorities seized four bundles of glassine envelopes containing heroin and $198 in suspected drug proceeds from him during the arrest.

Authorities had active warrants for handgun possession for unlawful purpose, handgun possession without permit, aggravated assault on a police officer, and hindering apprehension. He was charged with possession, distribution, and distribution in a school zone after the arrest.

Berdnik said Rivera was also charged with hindering apprehension by providing a false name.

“While most of us were sleeping, the PCSO was actively pursuing a wanted alleged gun and narcotic offender,” Berdnik said. “Once again, by aggressively arresting warrant suspects, new criminal activities are uncovered and additional charges made. I want to commend the PCSO personnel that were involved in facilitating this arrest.”
