1 killed, 2 wounded in separate overnight Paterson shootings

One man was killed and a woman and a second man were wounded in two early morning shootings in Paterson, according to authorities.
Vishon Randolph, 19, of Paterson was shot multiple times at around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday on Straight and Montgomery streets. He was rushed to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries. A second victim — 20-year-old man — from the same shooting was taken to the hospital and survived, authorities said.
Police said the second victim was treated and released from the hospital.
In a second shooting, a 27-year-old woman was shot in the leg on 12th Avenue and East 23rd Street at around 3 a.m., according to police. Police said the woman was taken to Joseph’s Regional Medical Center and is in stable condition. She is expected to be released, police said.
The locations of the two shootings are a mile away from each other.
This is Paterson’s 11th killing in 2017. Paterson had 19 killings in 2016.
Randolph was a student at the Great Falls Academy in 2015. He graduated from the Paterson Public Schools last June, according to a former teacher who taught him. He was one of the young men who protested a poor learning environment at the Boris Kroll building on State Street. He wrote a letter to the editor in 2015 detailing a chaotic environment within the building.
