A new program has been launched by the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office to provide identification cards to children and adults living with autism, Passaic County Sheriff Richard Berdnik announced on Friday afternoon.

Berdnik said the program is aimed at organizations, groups, and educational institutions that work with autistic populations. His autism identification card program announcement comes in recognition of the National Autism Awareness Month.

“It is essential that Autism Identification Cards are distributed throughout Passaic County. In case of an emergency, it is important that the proper identification is available, so first responders know not only the identity, but medical classification of the individual,” Berdnik said. “I encourage organizations to reach out to the Sheriff’s Office and participate in this innovative program.”

Organizations should contact the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office at 973-389-5920 to participate in the program, the sheriff said.
