A 20-year-old city man was killed in a shooting on 16th Avenue late Saturday night, said police.
Police responded to report of a shooting outside of 225 16th Avenue at about 11:45 p.m. and found the victim — Edward Andeliz — lying on the ground. He was provided medical aid and taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, said police.
Authorities continue to investigate the shooting.
Andeliz is the 15th killing in Paterson in 2017. The city had 19 killings in 2016, according to data made public by the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.
Andeliz was wanted by police for his alleged role in a 12th Avenue shooting in March. He was charged with attempted murder and weapons offenses.
In May 2015, Andeliz was chased down by detectives on 12th and Madison Avenues for allegedly having a gun in his possession. He was ultimately caught following the chase in a backyard. A Glock 17 and 55 grams of PCP was confiscated from him, police said at the time.
