The American Red Cross is assisting three families or nine people displaced from their Summer Street homes as a result of an early Thursday morning fire.
Firefighters responded to a fire at 495 Summer Street at around 12:40 a.m. and found the second floor of the building burning. The heavy fire was extending to the attic of the two-story building.
The fire reached second alarm. A second house was exposed to the flames. Firefighters had the blaze under control within an hour.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said.
