The city kicked off its third annual public safety camp at Camp Hope in West Milford on Monday to build a more trusting relationship between the community and police, said police director Jerry Speziale.

Youngsters will be bussed from Paterson to West Milford by Passaic County transportation buses. Activities include swimming, canine demonstrations, crime scene processing, scavenger hunts, emergency response team operations, traffic safety, and motorcycle operations.

The Passaic County Sheriff’s Office will conduct demonstrations for the youngsters. The young children will be provided breakfast and lunch by the camp staff.

Captain Lourdes Phelan of the Community Policing Unit is running the youth program.

“This is an outstanding program for our children and further builds trust and understanding in the community,” Speziale said. “We are thankful and grateful for the county support and all involved. “
